Where does courage come from?  I don’t think you can learn or be taught to be courageous from reading a book or listening to someone’s advice.  Courage comes from a place deep within oneself where we have gained enough clarity to decide to reach toward our freedom rather than settle for anything else.  Courage is a practice, and the more that we practice, the easier it can become to access.  As we access and practice courage, we claim our freedom.

But we have to start with that clarity; clarity of mind and self.  Most of the things we think make us “happy” are just ways and objects we have learned through life as soothing and “good”.  When we go deeper into our psyche, we might just realize that what we have learned will make us happy is not something we want.  For example many women in our society learn that they will be happy when they meet their Prince Charming, for some women it’s true, but for some of us our soul’s deepest expression of joy will not simply come from meeting a man we will marry.

This month, we have our new moon in the fiery and adventurous sign of Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is also the philosopher of the Zodiac and represents a wholistic intelligence.  Winter Solistice is onDecember 21.  The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year with the least amount of sunlight.  This month calls for us to go on an inner adventure.  The places we have to go are not just accessible by planes, train and automobile.  There are places it is time to go deeper into within ourselves in order to get clear about who we are and what we want.  As we get clear, we get courageous and free.  Below are the areas this month we are invited to go deeper in exploration of and get clear within.

Sidenote: Planet Venus starts her retrograde cycle through Capricorn on December 21 as well.  Venus Retrogrades happen every 18 months (last one was in May 2012) and last for about 40 days.  Venus is the planet of LOVE, and also money, income, the arts and value.  As we watch this planet begin to retrograde, we are invited to reflect on what we value, especially in romantic partnerships as well as in ways we earn our money. Endings signify new beginnings and conflict give us the opportunity to evaluate, see another perspective and also take responsibility for our roles.  Venus in Capricorn can be a little bit more serious than usual.  Maybe you notice you are ready to get serious in your relationship and take it to the next level.  Maybe you notice you are experiencing new ways of relating.  Either way, be aware and present, and continue to trust the process.

Sagittarius: This month is about looking at your ego.  Recent publications have made the ego out to be a “bad” thing.  I would disagree with that, but I might invite you to reflect on your ego and if it has been “overdeveloped”.  One of the best ways to bring balance to the ego is to develop a relationship with your heart and learning generosity, forgiveness and kindness.  Challenge yourself to do one nice thing a day for someone else AND for yourself and let go of the expectations.  Give to give.
Capricorn:  There are a lot of things that you have put aside in order to survive and thrive dear Capricorn.  Perhaps it is memories or bills or health concerns.  But this is the time to not keep putting these things in the back of your mind.  December invites us to get clear about some of the more unconscious patterns that are steering the sails of our lives and are asking us start putting new conscious ways into the driver’s seat.  This may be a much longer term process than 1 month, but start this journey now, the healing and peace you will receive from just beginning is phenomenal.
Aquarius:  What about your friends?  Who are your friends and why?  Friendships are a beautiful part of life, at least for me.  But there also comes a time to examine certain friendships and looking at how I exist in the friendship – do I avoid certain topics, do I feel free to be me, do I feel appreciated?  Let’s look at your friendships this month – look at how you contribute and where you hold back.  Maybe even start to experiment in the differently and push the envelope a little – you never know, it may turn a friend into something more!
Pisces:  It’s time to get clear about what you want in your career.  The Universe is taking your cues.  Do you want a career or a job?  They are different.  There is no need to keep settling for a job just so you have a paycheck.  This New Moon is ready to grant you your career wish, so get clear on what is your purpose here and what makes you super happy.  If you love what you do, you will never work a day!
Aries:  It’s time to take some risks and expand.  You may be playing it “safe” in a certain part of your life.  But your soul is growing and wants to expand.  This new moon takes place in your house of expansion – you might be ready to grow your family or go back to school.  Regardless this is a fertile time to expand how you know the world and the identity you have of yourself in the world.  It’s a season of growth.
Taurus:  The New Moon is in your 8th house, house of privacy, sex, death and taxes also known as what we are trying to keep private.  Let’s look at that this month, what are you keeping private or what do you not want people to know about you?  What have you been wanting to do or explore but holding back from?  This is the time to play and explore and to let yourself find pleasure in being exposed.
Gemini:  This new moon is your romantic and business partnerships new moon.  Let’s focus on romantic relationships because I have a feeling that is what you want to hear about (or maybe just what I love talking about!).  You have the ability to create a healthy and solid foundation for the relationship you want.  Now that is the hard part – figuring out what you want.  Use some time daily this month to claiming what you want – not what you think you can get, but what you desire in the deepest corner of your heart.
Cancer: Take a look at your routine and your worklife this month.  What you are getting is a result of what you are putting in.  If you want more at work, then make a routine of giving more to work – showing up early, letting go of distractions at work, stepping up for responsibility.  Ground yourself in routine.  Just like a tree, the more you reach your roots down, the higher you can grow.
Leo:  Your creativity is valuable asset toward getting clear.  Your creative process takes you to a more intuitive state where you may notice things just become clear.  So go ahead and get lost in your creativity – whether it be painting, cooking, dancing, singing, writing, acting, doing your makeup, picking out your outfit, decorating your home, designing a website – and let the clarity flow.
Virgo:  The theme for you this month is nurture.  Asking yourself how are you nurturing yourself, your body and your home.  Perhaps you have been working so much that you feel that you have no time for yourself.  Get clear and remember what brings you livelihood and what matters to you most.  Notice if you are taking things for granted, and if you are, start paying more attention to them and nourishing those things – your health, relationships, etc.
Libra:  Let’s look at how you communicate.  Communication is truly everything and it connects us (or disconnects us) from ourselves and others.  The way we communicate is often reflecting something within us.  To look at your communication doesn’t mean to stop/start talking more, but it does mean to reflect on what needs to be expressed through you. As you get clear about what you need express about, you start to teach others and inspire others.
Scorpio:  This is the time to evaluate and get clear on what and who you value.  Make a list of what is important to you.  If you value a certain relationship, then put more effort into it.  If you are spending a majority of your time on something that falls low on your list, it might be a good time to start shifting more time into other areas of your life.  What you give attention to grows.
