Everyone Loves a Bargain
This section will feature wonderful underground healers that are offering specials. We check them all out first so you can trust that the experience will be great..cause we are picky!!
Roll into Deep Release
Piki Houde is a certified Kinetic Awareness teacher. Kinetic Awareness is a release technique, which involves lying on rubber balls (different size for different part of the body) to massage tight areas and to allow more freedom of movement. The pressure of the balls and the process of slow concentrated movement and deep breathing bring new awareness and release to both the physical and emotional body. Piki believes "To experience the Ultimate, one must tune to the pulsation of nature within."
During a session using balls and deep massage you will explore the body's movement in all direction creating a deep movement meditation.
I had a session just before we filmed the DVD. I was suffering with a shoulder injury and as you could image was a bit STRESSED OUT!
Piki put me on her magic balls and in about 20 mins the pain I was having disappeared and I regained almost full range of movement. Piki knows the body on a deep level and is one of the few people I go to when I have an injury or need BIG LOVE!

It's time to give back
This section will feature creative and secure ways to donate money and time to smaller organizations and grassroots projects that can use our love and support.
If the holidays put you in a giving mood, consider volunteering at a local homeless shelter, nursing home or hospital. You can help prepare meals or visit with the residents. Visit the Holiday Project to get more ideas about volunteering. The site suggests wrapping presents the day before the visit and going with a group. If you don't know of a local volunteer organization that is planning holiday visits, start your own group.
Some community organizations need extra help over the holidays. Check with Volunteer Match and SERVEnet to find charities in your neighborhood that need holiday volunteers.

Love to you all from Costa Rica!!! I hope the holidays are greeting you with open arms. There are some wonderful things to read in this month's letter to help you find the balance in a season that can knock you off your feet. There is a beautiful poem that speaks to the inner transformation that can come with the winter season, an inspirational piece on the yoga of money and great shopping tips to help you harmonize with the holiday shopping craze!!
I'll be back on the 9th! Hope to see you all in class! Yoga is one of the best ways to regain the balance when the holidays take us for a ride!

"Massive Gifts"
by Balsam
We're edging into December. Obviously, that means holidays, whether you celebrate Winter Solstice, Hannukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or all of them! This season of anticipation and celebration is such a potent time of year. We suddenly feel the pressure of the ³tribe² brush up against our individual lives. Ritual, religion, memory, and relationships make demands on us, and we make our choices in response, knowing that in some ways, those choices carry more weight than usual. We are in a state of heightened attention, anticipation, and expectation during the holidays; what we do and say will reverberate throughout the coming year.
I've been thinking about how to use the energy and power inherent in this coming season to shift our lives for the better. Below, some reflections ~
!
"Deep Winter"
Unknown
Every Winter I take this essay out, read it over a bunch of times and post it somewhere in my apartment. I copy it, make it pretty and send it to my dearest friends. Take some quiet time to read this truly inspiring essay. I promise you, it will bring some new perspective, freedom and forward moving thought into your heart and mind.
Here is but a small excerpt...
We are in deep winter. The nights are long and the days are short.
The Earth grows cold and life retreats. Now is the time for you to awaken to your place in this cycle, and to use it consciously. What is darkest in your life? What loss or disappointment, fear or terror moves through you? They are brought to your awareness so that you can change them. They are your avenues to clarity and love that you are waiting for...

Pumpkin Tofu Cheesecake
Recipe Courtesy Patricia Greenberg
GRAHAM CRACKER PIE CRUST
2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 16 whole crackers)
6 tablespoons soy margarine, slightly softened
1 1/2 pounds silken tofu
1 cup canned or fresh cooked pumpkin
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
12 ounces soy cream cheese
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Preparation:
Make the graham cracker crust: In a food processor or blender, process the graham crackers on high speed until they are finely ground. Add the margarine and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pat the mixture into a thick layer in the bottom of an 8-inch springform pan, or thinner layers in 2 (9-inch) pie plates.
Make the filling: Have all the ingredients at room temperature. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. In a food processor or blender, puree the tofu until smooth. Add the sugar, spices, soy cream cheese, and vanilla and process until smooth. Scrape down the sides as necessary.
Pour the tofu mixture into the prepared pie crusts and bake for 50 minutes, until the cheesecake mixture is firm.
Turn the oven off, leaving the cake in the oven for 1 hour. Remove and cool to room temperature. Refrigerate the cheesecake overnight. Serve slightly chilled.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Message from the contributer!
Ok... really... I can understand how the name of the recipe might
scare you off. In fact, I told my sister-in-law what I was bringing
to the table and she laughed and said, "Ooooh my, well, we won't be
trying that! but maybe the kids will?" Please just trust me on this one. I made TWO last year. There were no leftovers and everyone asked for the recipe. It is so so so yummy! Even if you're not vegan (i'm not) and is great for those who are lactose intolerant! Go on....give it a shot!

What those who are in the know what to know
This section will feature what is cutting edge in the world of healing, fitness and more.
We love to buy gifts when we are inspired, but can feel stressed out and even angry when we are forced to search for gifts under the burden of this commercial holiday. A nonconformist myself, I often given my gifts after the holiday because it gives me more time to shop and I am able to capitalize on the deep after Christmas sales! I plan a little potluck for my friends after the holiday where we exchange gifts and chat about what we did during the season. I like to wrap all my gifts in cool news or magazine paper to save a tree or two.
The holiday is also a great time to develop your creativity by making your gifts. Jewelry, drawings, paintings designing a photo album with photos the person would enjoy(either something you shared or cool postcards of their favorite artists or just things that inspire them) are wonderful gifts. This can be as rewarding for you as they are for the lucky person who gets them.
Now, I understand that you might not have enough time to make a gift or might not be able to wait until after the holiday so below are some affordable and fun ideas that can help you during your shopping quest. They are listed from free to a bit more expensive.
Movie Tickets & Babysitting If you have friends with children, you can give them a night out (a date they probably havenıt had in ages!). Buy them movie passes and offer to baby sit for the night. You can catch up on some reading if you are lucky!
Plants Plants are really nice gifts and you can find them at very reasonable prices. You can buy a bulb that comes with a ceramic planter, soil and instructions. Itıs super easy. You just follow the instructions and watch it flourish. Itıs beautiful and itıs a really nice gift idea.
Trilogy Rosehip Oil Organic, good for the skin and at reasonable prices. They are offering free shipping for purchases over $25. This is sold at Santa Maria Novella store in NYC, Los Angeles or online.

It looks red on their site, but itıs actually a midnight blue. All of their items are organic and they have many nice gift items. Note! They can be a little flaky so best to speak with the owner Theo to assure your order is perfect.

Flowering Tea Numi has some beautiful organic teas, especially the ones that open up into beautiful flowers.

Candles
L'Artisan Parfumeur candles The larger candels can be a bit pricey, but you can get a small candle for $12 or $15. The quality and scent of the candles are amazing! They also have a booth at Saks. Website: www.laboutiquedelartisanparfumeur.com
Have fun and don't forget to treat yourself to a special something!
